Welcome to The Tyrone Association of Dublin

The Tyrone Association is attending a night at the Abbey Theatre on Thursday 26th August with the excellent play The Plough and the Stars by Sean O'Casey. We hope to meet before hand for some finger food and then afterwards we might go for a few drinks to a local pub.

Now regarded as a masterpiece, The Plough & the Stars is one of the plays most closely associated with the Abbey Theatre.

Set in a tenement house, against the backdrop of the Easter Rising in 1916, The Plough and the Stars is both an intimate play about the lives of ordinary people and an epic play about ideals and the birth of our nation.

Amidst the tumult of political upheaval, Jack and Nora Clitheroe are ‘like two turtle doves always billing and cooing’, much to the ridicule of their bustling neighbours. But when Ireland calls, Jack must choose between love for his wife and duty to his country.

Heartbreaking, disturbing and very funny, The Plough and the Stars is an historic play that every generation needs to see. At this time of national crisis, when the principles and ideals of the proclamation and the founding of the Republic are, more-than-ever, under consideration, it is an important play for the Abbey Theatre to present once again.

Director Wayne Jordan brings the fresh perspective of a new generation to this iconic play.
We're meeting in the Grand Central bar at the corner of O'Connell St and Abbey St at 6.15pm.

Finger food will be served before the show and then we will return there for after the show about 10.30pm, if anyone else wants to come by for a few drinks.

Tickets are €30 each and the show starts at 7.30pm. Anyone interested should contact us asap as tickets are limited.

2010 - A New Era
Mar 24, 2010
With a new younger TAD committee set up we've already set the wheels in motion for 2010 to be a year where we reinvent ourselves. We have already begun to set up some great events this year for young and old, male & female, dogs & cats. All in all we want our new look association to be vibrant and create a setting to bring all Tyrone people living in the greater Dublin area to come together for various social & cultural events.

Did you know...?
Jan 14, 2009
Lengthening hours of daylight otherwise known as “the stretch in the evenings” is a topic punctuating many a conversation in the early months of the year. This process is summed up in the colourful Irish saying “Fad choiscéim coiligh ar an charn aoiligh ar an lá” – literally “The lengthening of the day by a cockerel’s stride on the dunghill.” This saying is especially applicable in the early weeks of the New Year when the first longed-for sign of a new lease of life for the sun can be observed and a meagre progression discerned in terms of additional minutes of daylight. As another well-known saying has it – “Every cock crows on its own dunghill”.

Deerpark Golf Event
Jul 26, 2010
Despite the threat of a deluge, from the grey and menacing clouds overhead, the participants (to a player) in the inaugural Tyrone Association golfing 'classic' hailed a great day on the 10th July in the Deerpark Hotel, Howth. After having completed the short course of 12 holes, the golfers were treated to a very welcome and tasty meal in the hotel itself, which was followed by the prize-giving for the best team, best female golfer, best male golfer and the nearest to the pin on the 12th. Although ex-County football star Noel Mc Ginn had kindly agreed to present the prizes, he categorically assures us that that had no bearing on the fact that his team won both the best team award and the nearest to the pin (and we believe him!).

BT Young Scientist and Technology exhibition 2010
Jan 13, 2010
Two Tyrone schools participated in the BT Young Scientist and Technology exhibition held in the RDS January 14th-16th in Dublin. Students from Loreto Convent Grammar School Omagh and St Patrick's Academy, Dungannon competed with 500 other teams from all over Ireland for the coveted title of BT Young Scientist 2010. The St Patrick's Academy team received a Highly Commended award in the Social and Behavioural Sciences (Junior) category giving them great encouragement to start preparing early for next year's event. The Tyrone Association in Dublin welcomed the students and their teachers to the capital with an informal dinner where the students and teachers had an opportunity to meet each other and discuss their projects after a busy day setting up their exhibits and following completion of the preliminary round of judging. The Association extends its congratulations to all the participating Tyrone teams and their teachers and looks forwarding to meeting more budding Tyrone scientists at next year's event.
