| The photograph used in the Tyrone Association website banner is reproduced with the kind permission of the photographer, Ken Williams. Ken’s work can be viewed on many websites, this photograph is from one of his galleries which may be found at: Beaghmore in Co. Tyrone is one of the strangest collections of stone circles and rows in all of Ireland, though it is only one of many such sites in the Sperrin mountains nearby. There are seven stone circles in all, none have very large stones and most are miniscule, six are in pairs and one sits alone. Rows of stones form tangents to the circles and the multitude of small cairns that litter the site.
There are no obvious alignments to astronomical events in the rows and circles, even the circles themselves are sometimes haphazardly laid out. As mentioned there are three pairs of circles and one lone circle. This is unusual for circles in Ireland and the lone circle is all the more unusual for having over 800 small pointed stones set inside the ring.
Tá ceann de na baiiúcháin ghalláin is aistí agus is éagoitianta in Éirinn le fáil ar an láithreán seo sa Bheith Mór gar do na Speiríni i gContae Thír Eoghain. Tá seacht gciorcal cloch ar fad anseo, sé cinn acu ina bpéirí agus ceann amháin acu fágtha ar leataobh go haonaránach leis féin, leagan amach atá neamhchoitianta in Éirinn. Tá níos mó ná 800 céad clocha a bhfuil gob géar orthu taobh istigh den chiorcal cloch seo atá leis féín. Clocha an-bheaga den chuid is mó iad na galláin seo agus níl ach corr-cheann acu ina cloch mhór. Tá línte cloch ag síneadh amach mar thadhlaí ó na ciorcail agus carnáin bheaga cloch scaipthe ar fud na háite chomh maith.Ní léir go bhfuil na ciorcail agus na línte cloch seo curtha ar aon líne le cúrsaí réaltaí na spéire agus go deimhin féin uaireanta tá an chuma ar an scéal go bhfuil na ciorcail féin leagtha amach go neamhchúiseach ar fad. |
